Primates

Much of my work in the past couple years has involved primates. My primate related experiences are listed below.

Feeding Ecology of Red-Tailed Monkeys in Issa Valley, Tanzania

August 2018 – February 2019
Issa Valley, Ugalla, Tanzania
Role: Principle Investigator

Data collection and relevant skills: I collected feeding ecology data on two groups of Cercopithecus ascanius in Issa Valley, Tanzania (a savanna-mosaic habitat), and will compare this data with feeding ecology data from Cercopithecus ascanius in Kibale National Park, Uganda (rainforest habitat). This will be the first study of Cercopithecus ascanius feeding ecology in a savanna-mosaic environment and will provide insight on the ecological adaptability of this species.

Greater Mahale Ecosystem Research and Conservation

August 2018 – February 2019
Issa Valley, Ugalla, Tanzania
Role: Research Assistant

Data collection and relevant skills: collected behavioral data on chimpanzees, yellow baboons, and red-tailed monkeys, created ODK data collection forms for long-term red-tailed monkey behavioral studies, assisted in phenology and termite mound data collection, assisted in camera trap maintenance, cleaned and organized red-tailed monkey ranging data

Behavioral Responses of Three Lemur Species (Lemur catta, Eulemur rufifrons, Propithecus coquereli) to a Non-Malagasy Carnivore, the Gray Fox (Urocyon cinereoargenteus)

June – July 2018
Duke Lemur Center, Durham, North Carolina
Role: Principle Investigator

Data collection and relevant skills: designed methods of data collection, created an ethogram for the behavioral responses of lemurs and foxes within the encounters, collected data opportunistically using narrated video recordings, documented 60 lemur-fox encounters, input data into excel.

Evaluating Spatial Distributions of Scent-marks in Free-ranging Groups of Lemur catta

May – July 2018
Duke Lemur Center, Durham, North Carolina
Role: Research Assistant
Principle Investigator: Shallu Prasher

Data collection and relevant skills: collected over 200 hours of behavioral data using continuous and instantaneous sampling, utilized the offset GPS data collection method to record location of scent marks, used GPS to map enclosures, input data into excel.
